Position Summary:
The CNC Machining Center Operator is responsible for setting up, adjusting, programming, and operating a computerized numerical control (CNC) machining center based on various inputs including blueprints, sketches, and specifications. This role requires familiarity with the operation manual and the ability to perform all operational functions as outlined.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and manage parts handling on a dual pallet system to optimize machine efficiency.
- Conduct milling, drilling, boring, threading, grooving, reaming, and other machining operations on sub-assemblies.
- Utilize the operation manual to perform necessary machine setup functions, requiring knowledge of nomenclature and data entry codes.
- Establish standard parameters for feeds, speeds, and machine limits.
- Select operation sequences for data entry and verify accuracy using a CRT display.
- Perform in-process inspections to ensure compliance with drawings and specifications, using measuring instruments such as scales, calipers, and micrometers.
- Maintain quality standards to meet required tolerances.
- Utilize hand or power-driven material handling equipment as needed based on work piece or tooling size.
- Recommend tooling applications and sequences for unique operations.
- Provide setup and instructional training for machinists in other classifications.
- Supply personal tools as required by the supervisor.
- Manually debur various components as necessary.
- Adhere to safe working practices and maintain good housekeeping standards.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the area Production Lead or designated personnel.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
- Proficiency testing may be applicable.
Preferred Skills:
- CNC training.
- One year of experience in a machine shop is desirable.
Working Conditions:
Physical demands may include moving items up to 60 pounds for short distances, standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and squatting for extended periods. Exposure to fumes, dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather, moving mechanical parts, and moderate to loud noise levels is possible. Appropriate protective gear and clothing must be worn as necessary.
