Job Title: Mechanic

We are seeking a skilled Mechanic to join our team at Denton County Transportation Authority. As a Mechanic, you will be responsible for performing repairs and preventive maintenance activities for our fleet of buses.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist higher-level mechanics with repairs, including replacing and repairing transmissions, front and rear end assemblies, power steering, braking mechanisms, electronic engine and equipment systems, and hydraulic systems.
  • Perform preventative and periodic maintenance inspections, diagnose problems, and ensure timely and effective repair.
  • Advise supervisors of additional work needed, work not required, or repairs that cannot be completed within the promised time frame.
  • Evaluate, troubleshoot, analyze, and test transit vehicle systems to determine the nature and extent of defects.
  • Ensure accurate and properly addressed vehicle condition reports.
  • Assist in maintaining maintenance records and ensure repair orders are neat and accurate.
  • Track repairs in progress to ensure timely and correct repair of vehicles for return to operations.
Requirements:
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • High School Diploma, GED, or technical training and certification related to maintenance.
  • Valid, non-restricted Texas Class B CDL License with Passenger and Air Brake Endorsements.
  • Must have a clean driving record and own tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two to three years of experience working as a mechanic in transit or similar environment.
  • Technical training in the field from vocational school highly desired.
Working Conditions:

The physical demands of this job include sitting on a bus for long periods, prolonged driving, writing or using a keyboard, and repetitive hand motions. The job also requires frequent use of hands, fingers, and sitting, as well as bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, standing, walking, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 75 lbs.
