Position Overview

The Vice President of Research Operations will oversee the comprehensive management of research initiatives and sponsored programs. This role encompasses both pre-award and post-award administration of grants and contracts, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Provide strategic oversight for research and sponsored programs, collaborating with university stakeholders to enhance research infrastructure and diversify funding sources.

2. Develop and implement policies that uphold institutional integrity, ensuring the safety and welfare of all research participants and compliance with regulatory standards.

3. Act as the institutional representative for compliance with regulations related to animal care, human subjects, and export controls.

4. Facilitate the implementation of the university's Intellectual Property policy and manage conflict of interest requirements.

5. Foster effective communication and partnerships with university administrators, faculty, staff, and external funding agencies.

6. Serve as the Authorized Official for all sponsored program activities, ensuring accountability and compliance in managing research expenditures.

7. Lead the recruitment, retention, and professional development of staff within the sponsored programs office.

8. Continuously monitor and enhance processes to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction among principal investigators and project teams.

Qualifications

Education: A Master's degree is required, along with a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in research administration within higher education.

Experience: Prior supervisory experience is essential. Expertise in negotiating funding agreements and managing complex sponsored projects is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- In-depth understanding of compliance regulations related to sponsored research and human subjects.
- Exceptional communication skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Proven ability to manage budgets and lead staff effectively.
- Experience in a collaborative management environment.

Conditions of Employment

This position may require occasional evening and weekend work, as well as travel. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check and verification of credentials. Proof of U.S. citizenship or eligibility for employment will be required prior to hiring.
