Role Summary:
We are looking for a skilled analyst to contribute to our Planning department. The successful candidate will possess expertise in Energy Trading Risk Management (ETRM) systems, including AURORA, PLEXOS, PCI, SATURN, or similar platforms. This role is essential for supporting the annual budget, Long-Range Financial Forecast (LRFF), and various analytical projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and enhance analytical tools and processes to meet departmental objectives.
  • Oversee project management tasks, including energy budget formulation, feasibility studies for generation asset upgrades, monthly margin assessments, and evaluations of financial and operational impacts stemming from changes in generation assets or market conditions.
  • Engage with senior management and member cooperatives to communicate findings and insights.
  • Lead power system modeling initiatives using ETRM systems to predict energy production costs and assess capacity expansion effects. Conduct relevant analyses on energy forecasting and environmental impacts.
  • Utilize spreadsheet and database applications to create analytical tools. Prepare documentation for regulatory bodies and complete special projects as assigned.
  • Support the development of analysis products, including corporate and member energy and fixed cost budgets, collaborating with other analysts to finalize deliverables.
  • Work collaboratively with various departments to support their analytical needs and gather necessary data.
  • Prepare and deliver professional presentations and written reports for peers and senior management, addressing follow-up inquiries promptly.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications:
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations Research, Economics, Statistics, or a related field. An MBA or progress towards one is advantageous.
Experience:
  • 3-8 years of experience in electric utility generation planning, including the use of production cost models, budgeting, planning, and financial forecasting.
  • A Master's degree with 1-2 years of relevant experience may be considered equivalent.
Skills:
  • Strong understanding of finance, accounting, forecasting, economics, and engineering principles.
  • Familiarity with generation planning forecasting, power system operations, production cost modeling, and electric utility rate making.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities are essential.
  • Proficiency in Excel and experience with PowerPoint are required.
