PRIMARY OBJECTIVE
The individual in this role will operate within a clean, well-lit, temperature-controlled, and well-ventilated environment. This position involves handling controlled substances and other pharmaceutical products.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In the absence of the Pharmacy Manager, act as the on-duty supervisor of the pharmacy department, ensuring all essential functions are maintained.
  • Provide leadership and support to all staff members within the pharmacy department.
  • Offer constructive feedback regarding the performance of support staff to the Pharmacy Manager.
  • Develop and implement staff schedules for the pharmacy location.
  • Serve as the primary advocate for customer care, ensuring that service standards are upheld by all pharmacy personnel.
  • Uphold company safety standards and communicate any necessary equipment repairs or maintenance needs.
  • Ensure the completion and maintenance of records and reports as required by regulations or corporate policies.
  • Assist in training all personnel at the pharmacy location; recommend training interventions to the Store Manager and/or Pharmacy Manager.
  • Collaborate with the Pharmacy Manager or Pharmacy Operations Manager to create and implement operational and efficiency enhancement programs.
  • Work alongside the Store Manager, Pharmacy Manager, and pharmacy staff to identify and execute marketing strategies to boost pharmacy sales.
  • Monitor the adjudication of third-party claims, following up as necessary to ensure timely payments; identify issues in third-party systems and report them to the Pharmacy Manager or Pharmacy Operations Manager.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and practices by all pharmacy personnel in coordination with the Store Manager and Pharmacy Manager.
  • Oversee pharmacy inventory and manage purchasing and return systems.
  • Ensure adherence to all state and federal laws, rules, and regulations governing pharmacy operations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager, Store Manager, or Pharmacy Operations Manager.
Key functions of the retail pharmacist include:

  • Accurate dispensing of prescription medications.
  • Operation of the claims adjudication system.
  • Patient counseling and health advocacy.
  • Acting as a liaison with patients, prescribers, and other entities requesting pharmacy services.
  • Making clinical decisions regarding each prescription, including checks for drug interactions, allergies, and dosage.
  • Preparing and dispensing medications in compliance with physician orders and applicable laws.
  • Ability to work for extended periods, often standing on a concrete floor.
  • Capability to reach and retrieve medications from various heights.
  • Stocking responsibilities that require bending, stretching, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Effective communication with healthcare professionals and patients.
  • Counseling patients on the proper use of medications and healthcare products, including potential side effects.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of an accredited pharmacy college with a Bachelor's or advanced degree.
  • Currently licensed to practice as a Pharmacist in the relevant state.
  • Proven communication skills and customer relations expertise.
  • Ability to effectively engage with customers, associates, and healthcare professionals.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule in a dynamic retail environment.
  • Capacity to manage multiple priorities and guide associates.
  • High standards of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Physical requirements include walking, stooping, speaking, writing, and operating office equipment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
