Safety Specialist Job Description

The Safety Specialist plays a pivotal role in driving the implementation of ArcelorMittal's comprehensive safety, security, and emergency response program. This program encompasses all aspects of onsite corporate safety, security, and emergency response, ensuring seamless compliance with the company's philosophy and the latest regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement safety management systems, including work processes, safety plans, and standards & procedures.
  • Coach teams and individuals on safety-related tasks and activities, promoting a culture of safety excellence.
  • Participate in Root Cause Investigations (RCIs) to identify and mitigate risks, ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Evaluate Behavioral Based data and coach teams to adopt safe behaviors, analyzing the Behavior Based Performance processes.
  • Participate in and provide data for safety audits/assessments, ensuring continuous improvement.
  • Maintain safety recordkeeping systems, Health Assessment Planning Tool & Qualitative Exposure Assessment databases.
  • Develop and implement Industrial Hygiene (IH) programs, conducting necessary monitoring per IH Plans.
  • Create and deliver safety training, ensuring all personnel are equipped to handle emergency situations.
  • Organize and oversee the Site & Facility Security Plan, assessing process and non-process related risks.
  • Develop and implement the facility-wide emergency management plan, ensuring preparedness for all scenarios.
  • Assess emergency response equipment needs and organize emergency response teams based on risk assessments.
  • Develop, implement, and train the emergency response team, ensuring seamless response to emergencies.
  • Initiate emergency plans and provide leadership in response to on-site emergencies, ensuring the safety of all personnel.
Requirements:
  • OSHA Authorized General Industry Trainer Preferred or Completed OSHA 510/511.
  • ASP/CSP Preferred.
  • Ability to assume the role of Incident Commander at an emergency incident.
  • Must complete firefighter training up to the level of Fire Brigade Leader.
  • Ability to work in tough environmental conditions, withstand heights of up to 500 feet, and enter into dangerous environments to execute lifesaving rescue and combat fire or hazardous situations.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel & Power Point).
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to travel occasionally.
  • Must have experience with designing, implementing, and maintaining Site Safety & Security plans.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from the site.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a TWIC card.
