Job Summary

The Controls Technician will be responsible for the startup, testing, and commissioning of building automation systems. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills to work effectively with internal and external clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Startup and testing of building automation systems
  • Working directly with clients and subcontractors to facilitate the installation of designed control systems
  • Follows a systematic plan for complete startup of systems and turnover to project team
  • Responsible for documentation of startup process for the system
  • Communicates with project manager and client to assist in effective completion of the project
  • Takes initiative to find solutions
  • Coordinates punch-out of front-end system
  • Interfaces with Electrician on coordination items
  • Documents tested points and wiring runs
  • Startup/testing of terminal unit and air handling unit controllers as well as central plant controllers
  • Communicates directives to electrical subcontractors for proper installation of control components
  • Interfaces with 3rd party manufacturer controls
  • Reads wiring diagrams to determine proper terminations to mechanical equipment
  • Terminates and troubleshoots wiring and system components
  • Creates software points in controllers
  • Tests automatic programming sequence
  • Maintains daily reports on project progress and open items
  • Enforces safety to the highest standards
Requirements
  • 0-3+ years of technician experience within the controls industry and systems
  • Technical degree in HVAC, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proficient with a computer - Microsoft Office Suite and adaptable to new software platforms
  • Depth of knowledge in mechanical systems and sequences of operations
  • Reading and understanding mechanical design documents as well as Manufacturer's wire diagrams
  • Experienced abilities in problem solving and troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with interfacing to third party devices
  • Seeks high level of quality in their work and to exceed client expectations
  • Ability to work independently or part of a team
  • Presents a positive image for the company
  • Desire to continually learn and strive towards excellence
