PCL Desk Evening and Weekend Supervisor Job Summary

The University of Texas at Austin Libraries is seeking a highly skilled and experienced PCL Desk Evening and Weekend Supervisor to lead a team of student workers at the Perry-Castaneda Library (PCL) during evenings and weekends. As a key member of the Libraries' team, the successful candidate will provide exceptional customer service, manage the circulation of library materials, and oversee the daily operations of the PCL Desk.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of student workers at the PCL Desk during evenings and weekends, ensuring excellent customer service and a positive user experience.
  • Manage the circulation of library materials, including checking out and returning books, media, and other materials.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the PCL Desk, including opening and closing procedures, inventory management, and equipment maintenance.
  • Provide research assistance and referrals to library users, including answering questions, providing guidance, and directing users to relevant resources.
  • Collaborate with other Libraries' staff to ensure seamless service delivery and effective communication.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay up-to-date on library policies, procedures, and technologies.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of experience in a library or related setting.
  • Proven leadership and supervisory skills, with experience managing a team of student workers.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work a varied schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Library Science or a related field.
  • Experience working in a academic library setting.
  • Knowledge of integrated library systems and other library technologies.
  • Experience with supervising student workers and providing training and development opportunities.
