Primary Purpose:
The Lead HVAC Technician is responsible for overseeing staff and ensuring the maintenance, repair, and installation of heating and air conditioning systems and equipment across the district.

Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED
Valid Texas driver's license
Current EPA approved Type I and Type II refrigerant certification

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Proficient in HVAC repair, maintenance, and installation techniques
Familiarity with HVAC Direct Digital Control Systems
Ability to interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation
Competence in performing mathematical calculations, diagnosing, and resolving issues
Proficient in using computers with DDC, hand tools, and power tools

Experience:
Minimum of five years' experience as an HVAC technician
At least four years' experience in a supervisory or lead role in HVAC

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Maintenance and Repair
  1. Supervise and direct HVAC personnel and operations to ensure effective maintenance, repair, and installation of all HVAC systems.
  2. Diagnose and rectify malfunctions, or calibrate DDC controls in various heating and air conditioning systems, including rooftop units and chiller systems.
  3. Conduct inspections, schedule, and execute necessary repairs, preventative maintenance, and equipment replacements, including thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring.
  4. Maintain preventive maintenance schedules and procedures for all HVAC equipment, including filter changes and condenser and coil cleaning.
  5. Keep accurate records of all materials, labor, and refrigerant usage to comply with federal regulations.
  6. Fabricate, assemble, and install ductwork and piping in accordance with specifications and codes.
  7. Perform duct cleaning and air quality assessments as required.
  8. Assist the energy manager in promoting cost-effective HVAC energy usage.
  9. Create, receive, and complete all HVAC-related work orders.
  10. Select materials and hardware, and provide estimates for time and materials.
  11. Manage HVAC inventory for district-owned vehicles, tools, equipment, and materials.
  12. Inspect completed jobs to ensure cleanliness and compliance.
  13. Respond to emergency calls and after-hours requests as necessary.
Safety
  1. Conduct preventive maintenance on vehicles, tools, and equipment.
  2. Operate tools and equipment following established safety protocols.
  3. Ensure that all equipment is in safe working condition.
  4. Adhere to established safety procedures and techniques while performing job duties, including lifting and climbing.
  5. Identify and rectify unsafe conditions in the work area and report any unresolvable issues to the supervisor immediately.

Meter, gauge, welding equipment, ladder, hoist, hand and power tools, pipe bender, propane torch, light truck or van.
Working Conditions:

Frequent walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and heavy lifting. Work in physically demanding and uncomfortable positions, both indoors and outdoors. Exposure to extreme temperatures. Regular travel across the district.
