Join Wisconsin Community Services as a Certified Peer Specialist and play a vital role in supporting individuals with mental health, substance use, and co-occurring needs.
Job Summary:The Certified Peer Specialist provides support, education, and mentoring to adults enrolled in Comprehensive Community Services (CCS) programs. As a peer specialist, you will utilize your lived recovery experience to promote wellness, purpose, and recovery goals for individuals served.
Key Responsibilities:- Act as a member of the CCS team, providing services to individuals with mental health, substance use, and co-occurring needs.
- Utilize your life and recovery experiences to role model and support individuals in reaching their identified recovery goals.
- Build on individuals' strengths to meet their unique recovery needs.
- Provide person-centered services, directed by the individual being served.
- Advocate for individuals' needs with dignity and through a trauma-informed approach.
- Develop mutually empowering relationships with individuals served.
- Provide services in the community, including individuals' homes and other community locations.
- Participate in recovery team meetings to create individual recovery plans, identify and prioritize goals, and monitor progress.
- Document all contact with individuals served and team members, adhering to program requirements.
- Successful completion of a State-approved Peer Specialist Training and State Certification as a Peer Specialist.
- Knowledge and skills to work with a mental health and substance use recovery population.
- Organization skills and experience working with individuals in recovery who have mental health and/or substance use needs.
- Ability to quickly develop rapport with individuals, excellent assessment and interviewing skills.
- Understanding of mental health needs and strong understanding of the substance use population.
- Ability to work through difficult situations, flexible, and able to multitask throughout the workday.
The Certified Peer Specialist works primarily in the community, including individuals' homes and various community-based locations. Ability to work in an office setting. Hours average 40 hours per week.
Position is mobile with significant time spent in the community, including transporting individuals, home visits, and attending meetings. Must be able to go up and down stairs.
