Position Summary

The Director of Risk Management plays a crucial role in overseeing risk management strategies within the organization, focusing on patient safety, quality enhancement, complaint resolution, claims oversight, and insurance administration.


Reporting Structure:
Reports directly to the VP of Risk & Regulatory.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the assessment of patient safety incidents to determine severity, frequency, and potential financial implications, thereby improving patient safety.
  • Oversee the organization's approach to addressing patient care complaints.
  • Develop and implement loss control strategies related to patient care complaints, including billing adjustments and access to medical services.
  • Manage investigations into all identified potentially compensable events.
  • Conduct regular evaluations of claim files.
  • Oversee the claims process, collaborating with external legal counsel and negotiating settlements for medical malpractice claims.
  • Provide summary reports to internal claims teams and external legal representatives, offering insights on litigation potential.
  • Address professional and hospital liability inquiries from staff.
  • Assist in managing the organization's liability insurance portfolio.
  • Engage in ethical dilemmas through consultation and policy review.
  • Establish educational programs and reporting systems for relevant areas.
  • Participate in committees and task forces aimed at enhancing quality and safety while mitigating organizational risk.
  • Manage daily operations of the Risk Management Department, including staffing and budget oversight.
  • Responsible for hiring, professional development, performance evaluations, and staff management.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Qualifications
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum of 6 years of relevant leadership experience, including 3 years in a managerial role within healthcare.
  • Strong communication, project management, problem-solving, and change management skills.
Desired:
  • Master's degree.
  • Excellent presentation skills for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to foster partnerships and teamwork.
  • Understanding of the complexities within large organizations.
