Job Overview

Timmons Group is consistently seeking applications for the position of Field Survey Chief to consider for upcoming opportunities within our surveying division. The Field Survey Chief plays a pivotal role in managing the daily operations of the assigned Survey Instrument Operator to ensure the successful execution of engineering and land surveys.

Key Responsibilities for an ideal candidate encompass, but are not limited to:

  • Supervises daily field crew activities to gather data for boundary, topographical, and construction stakeout surveys.
  • Trains team members in the operation of total stations, levels, GPS, and data collectors for effective data collection.
  • Establishes and marks points on construction stakeout projects, including curb and gutter, drop inlets, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, waterline, and structures.
  • Conducts routine maintenance and upkeep of surveying instruments.
  • Produces clear and detailed field notes along with sketches.
  • Manages the maintenance of surveying equipment, supplies, and vehicles.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively within a team while also being capable of independent work when necessary.

Qualifications for a successful candidate include, but are not limited to:
  • High school diploma or GED with a minimum of five (5) years of field survey experience.
  • Familiarity with Leica Robotic Total Stations, Data Collectors, and GPS is preferred.
  • Experience in DOT transportation surveying is advantageous.
  • Ability to systematically collect field data in a neat and professional manner for various boundary, topographic, design, and construction staking projects.
  • Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) or Surveyor Intern (SI) designation preferred but not mandatory.
  • Capability to compute, process, and map field data will provide opportunities for advancement.
  • Experience with AutoCAD is a plus.
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally is necessary.
  • Ability to carry equipment weighing up to 50 lbs across diverse terrains.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, including seasonal extremes.
  • Physical demands of the job may include hiking, climbing, and vegetation management tasks such as chopping, cutting, hammering, and sawing.
