Position Overview:
The Hang Point Operations Manager is tasked with overseeing a pivotal production transition point—the transfer of fabricated components to a semi-automated powder coating line. This role is essential in ensuring that all fabricated parts conform to specifications necessary for the powder coating process. The manager will coordinate the suspension of these components onto the paint line's chain network. Effective leadership of a diverse team and strict compliance with quality, production, and safety protocols are crucial for success in this position.
An ideal candidate for the Hang Point Operations Manager role will exhibit excellent communication skills, meticulous attention to detail, a strong sense of urgency, and a solid understanding of both fabrication and painting processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain a Safety First approach in all activities.
- Collaborate with departmental coordinators and supervisors to plan, schedule, and communicate daily production tasks and expectations while assigning work to production staff.
- Ensure optimal allocation of personnel and resources to facilitate safe and efficient operations at the transition point between fabrication and painting.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and training to production staff, holding them accountable as a frontline leader and escalating issues to coordinators/supervisors when necessary.
- Work in conjunction with leaders from other departments (including Fabrication, Quality, Materials/Inventory, Shipping, and Maintenance) to streamline operations and resolve any bottlenecks affecting output.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to production and adjust activities as needed to meet or exceed established quotas.
- Assess all aspects of the fabrication-to-paint line transition, identify areas for operational enhancement, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
- Serve as a subject matter expert by performing production tasks such as machine setup and hanging fabricated parts on the paint line chain network as required to ensure uninterrupted operations.
- Support compliance with safety regulations in accordance with company policies and applicable federal/state laws.
- Assist in various production areas to maintain operational integrity.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in a fabrication or light manufacturing setting.
- At least 1 year of experience in a leadership role overseeing production employees.
- Proficiency in both English and Spanish to effectively communicate work instructions and safety protocols.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate Degree in Engineering Technology, Supply Chain, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in a fabrication or light manufacturing environment.
- 5+ years of experience in a leadership capacity managing production teams.
- 5+ years of experience with industrial powder coating technology.
Skills and Competencies:
- Ability to read and interpret work instructions, process guidelines, technical manuals, and safety instructions.
- Strong communication skills to convey work instructions to a diverse workforce.
- Capacity to instill urgency and hold teams accountable for their responsibilities.
- Familiarity with general manufacturing, fabrication, and material flow processes and equipment.
- Mathematical proficiency for basic calculations using various units of measure.
- Ability to follow detailed written or verbal instructions effectively.
- Problem-solving skills to address issues in standardized situations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly lift and/or move objects weighing 10-20 lbs.
- Occasionally lift and/or move objects exceeding 100 lbs.
- Able to endure typical production environment conditions, including lighting, noise, humidity, and temperature variations.
