Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Radiology Technologist or Radiology Technologist, Senior to join our Radiology department at Hennepin Healthcare. This full-time position will work Monday through Friday from 3:00 - 11:30pm, with a $5.00 per hour evening shift differential. A $10,000 sign-on bonus is available for eligible external candidates.

Under the direction of the area supervisor or lead technologist, the successful candidate will perform imaging exams/procedures, provide patient care and technical functions to ensure quality radiographic images. Key responsibilities include preparing rooms for procedures, reviewing and verifying exam requests, interviewing patients, and explaining exam procedures. The ideal candidate will also have excellent communication skills and be able to work independently and self-motivated.

Responsibilities

- Perform general radiographic and fluoroscopic exams as applicable
- Adequately prepare room for procedures
- Review and verify exam requests to ensure correct exam is ordered on the correct patient
- Interview patients and review available clinical data from charts to alert nurses and/or physicians to possible contraindications for procedure (labs, allergies, etc.)
- Ensure patients receive the same level of care as provided on patient's unit
- Explain exam procedure to patient and family members who are present
- Prepare and administer oral and/or IV contrast per department protocols
- Demonstrate correct anatomic positioning and exposure factors relating to area-specific exams
- Follow ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) principle
- Demonstrate extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology and effects of disease processes.
- Evaluate images, recognize normal vs. abnormal anatomy and notify the appropriate Radiologist as needed; take appropriate action to address image quality issues
- Consistently perform quality exams and ensure that department protocols are followed (positioning protocols, etc.)
- Utilize the image management system; acquire, format, manipulate, archive and print images from the PACS system
- Accurately report total number of images taken and number of and reason for repeat radiographs
- Assist physicians and residents as required with radiology exams/procedures
- Utilize EPIC system appropriately (orders, scheduling documentation, and billing)
- Implement downtime procedures (manual operations) when computer systems or equipment fails
- Instruct new staff and students in imaging procedures and techniques
- Evaluate and complete competency test-outs on students. Provide on-going feedback to Student Coordinator about any issues
- Assist with education and training of medical staff (Radiology Residents, Fellows, etc.)
- Maintain equipment and room in proper working condition and trouble-shoot malfunctioning equipment. Report malfunctions and necessary repairs to proper personnel as soon as issue is recognized
- Respect and use equipment appropriately. Take ownership and report incidents involving themselves and the equipment when it happens
- Perform various clerical duties
- Perform quality control procedures
- Demonstrate and promote a healthy work environment and good teamwork; make suggestions for improvements
- Assist in organizing work flow utilizing available staff and rooms
- Assist in coordinating and participates in departmental continuing education in-services
- Provide peer feedback for staff performance evaluations
- Complete additional duties/projects as assigned
- Follow hospital policy in handling and securing medications

Qualifications

- Completion of a formal educational Radiologic Technology program accredited by a mechanism acceptable to the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
- Currently certified with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
- Maintain minimum CEU credits as mandated by the ARRT
- Possess current CPR certification or obtain within 6 months of employment
