REPORTS TO: Operations Supervisor
ROLE SUMMARY:
The Paramedic is responsible for responding to both emergency and non-emergency requests for ambulance services, providing pre-hospital care, and delivering inter-facility medical assistance in line with established company medical protocols, policies, and procedures. This role may involve operating an emergency vehicle and utilizing a two-way radio. The Paramedic serves as the primary caregiver and is tasked with coordinating the clinical functions of the ambulance team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deliver patient care in accordance with company policies, procedures, protocols, and standards.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and other care standards relevant to the certification level.
- Respond to all assigned calls efficiently and safely.
- Complete necessary documentation, secure appropriate signatures, and submit reports as required at the end of each shift.
- Utilize supplies and equipment effectively, ensuring proper operation of all basic and advanced life support tools, and report any equipment issues to the Field Operations Supervisor.
- Possess a thorough knowledge of local geography and the ability to navigate using maps and grid books.
- Ensure that the unit and equipment are kept in a clean, organized, and operational state after each response, including maintaining fuel, fluid, and tire pressure levels.
- Fulfill all station duties and keep crew quarters in a tidy and functional condition.
- Execute all responsibilities in alignment with established financial and operational plans aimed at cost-effectiveness and efficient management.
- Exhibit prompt and regular attendance at work.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- At least 1 year of experience as a field Paramedic.
- Must be at least 19 years of age.
- Paramedic Certification from the State of Georgia.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- Valid Georgia Driver's License.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Familiarity with emergency medical service methods and techniques.
- Understanding of local EMS and public safety structures.
- Knowledge of local, federal, and state insurance billing guidelines for ambulance services.
- Ability to read and comprehend medical terminology in English.
- Capability to write reports, business correspondence, and complete necessary forms.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, clients, and other public service personnel.
- Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to inquiries regarding patient care and company operations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Regularly required to use hands and fingers, reach with arms, and communicate verbally.
- Frequently required to stand and walk.
- Must be able to sit, climb, stoop, kneel, or crouch for extended periods.
- Must frequently lift and/or move up to 180 pounds and occasionally up to 300 pounds with assistance.
- Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Must be able to transfer patients using a stair chair and handle medical equipment effectively.
- Must be able to work in various temperatures and weather conditions.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Due to the nature of emergency medical services, employees may encounter inclement weather, hazardous conditions, and exposure to diseases. Frequent interruptions and irregular work schedules are expected, with multiple high-priority projects. Employees may also be required to travel for meetings, some of which may occur outside regular working hours.
