Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Lab Technician II to join our team at UNC Health Care. As a Medical Lab Technician II, you will play a critical role in processing and analyzing specimens for testing in a laboratory setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform analysis by loading specimens onto a range of instruments, including blood bank, coagulation, hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, and microbiology.
  • Review and record results of analysis into the lab information system, ensuring accuracy and quality control.
  • Maintain and calibrate instruments in accordance with quality control standards, performing proficiency testing and participating in root cause analysis.
  • Troubleshoot instrumentation when parameters fall outside of tolerances, collaborating with vendors as needed.
  • Receive and process specimens, ensuring proper identification, labeling, and recordkeeping.
  • Prepare specimens for analysis, checking and maintaining consumable levels for instrumentation.
  • Promote a safe and clean hospital environment, adhering to standard precautions and principles of infection control.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree from an accredited college/university.
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification.
  • Preferred: One year of experience working as a Medical Laboratory Technician in a laboratory setting.
