The role involves executing a diverse range of semi-skilled maintenance, repair, and custodial tasks at all HRT transit stops, ensuring that the agency's public face is upheld in a clean and secure manner. The primary responsibilities of this position include maintaining the overall safety, aesthetic appeal, cleanliness, and operational functionality of all transit stops at HRT bus, light rail, and ferry locations. Additionally, this role entails providing quality assurance and oversight at specific passenger amenity sites being serviced by contractors.
Key Responsibilities:
(The duties outlined are not exhaustive and may include other reasonable tasks as assigned.)
- Conduct route inspections and assess all transit stops for routine maintenance and reported issues.
- Perform basic evaluations of the condition of transit stops and catalog all assets associated with those locations.
- Carry out minor repairs and maintenance on damaged transit stop features, including cleaning and replacing broken shelter glass panels, and repairing or replacing damaged benches, trash receptacles, solar lighting, and bus stop signage.
- Utilize a variety of power and hand tools to perform maintenance and repair tasks, including hoists, power washers, paint sprayers, and weed eaters.
- Remove graffiti from passenger amenities using chemical washes and pressure washing techniques, as well as touch up paint as necessary.
- Manage landscaping around passenger amenities, which may involve mowing grass, trimming shrubs, removing tree branches, controlling weeds, and collecting litter.
- Empty and clean HRT trash containers, disposing of waste in designated dumpsters.
- Pressure wash amenities and surrounding pavement at HRT transit stops as instructed.
- Perform cleaning tasks such as snow or debris removal from sidewalks and stairs within 25 feet of HRT facilities and/or passenger amenities using hand tools or small power equipment.
- Assist with the installation and removal of Adopt-A-Stop programs as volunteers join or leave.
- Address emergencies at transit stops as needed, which may include cleaning biohazard waste (e.g., vomit, feces, urine, blood), applying limited pest control measures for bees, wasps, rodents, and insects, and mitigating hazardous conditions such as broken glass or exposed electrical wiring.
- Submit maintenance work orders when issues are identified that cannot be resolved on-site.
- Scan 'Am I Clean?' QR Codes at each stop and report when cleaning or maintenance issues have been addressed.
- Maintain an inventory of tools and supplies; perform regular maintenance on assigned equipment, and assist in scheduling preventative maintenance for vehicles owned by HRT.
- Respond to customer complaints or refer them to the appropriate HRT personnel.
- Assist Facilities in organizing meetings, training sessions, conferences, and special events.
- Follow safety instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies.
- Safely operate all vehicles and job-related equipment provided by HRT.
- Adhere to all relevant Hampton Roads Transit policies and procedures.
- Manage records in compliance with Hampton Roads Transit Records Management Policies and Procedures.
- Perform other related duties as required.
