Job Overview

As an Education Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting the Middle School Academy. Your primary responsibilities will include coordinating student academics and tutoring schedules, acting as a liaison between classroom teachers and the YMCA, and providing a high-quality experience for children and parents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and schedule student pre- and post-assessment testing
  • Coordinate student tutoring schedules in conjunction with the Site Director; act as a liaison between classroom teachers and the Middle School Academy
  • Monitor student grades
  • Assist the Site Director in planning academic activities and functions
  • Aid the Site Director in collecting program and student data and documentation
  • Attend all meetings and trainings related to Middle School Academies, models, and support the Site Director
  • Provide the Site Director with grade-level curriculum guides; assist with aligning enrichment activities' calendars and communicate with the Site Director
  • Communicate and update the Site Director on students' work and projects
  • Promote the Middle School Academy to parents, students, staff, and the school community
  • Follow all programming and scheduling requirements
  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with youth
  • Attend required abuse risk management training
  • Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising youth
  • Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations
  • Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements

Requirements:

  • Certified teacher currently employed by Pinellas County Schools. Equivalent experience and education may substitute certification.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications within 30 days of hire date.
  • YMCA New Employee training completed before hire date.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate program activities.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.

Work Environment:

The Education Specialist will work in various schools across St. Petersburg/Pinellas County.

*Level 2 background clearance and 10-panel drug screen required.
