Position Overview:

As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a crucial role in instructing students with diverse needs, focusing on essential social, academic, and daily living skills. Utilizing a variety of teaching methodologies, materials, and resources, you will facilitate learning and foster independence among students with moderate to severe disabilities.

Your responsibilities will include adapting or developing curricula tailored to individual abilities and needs, ensuring that all instructional activities are relevant and engaging.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Engage in the eligibility assessment process and participate in the intake procedures for students qualifying for special education services.
  • Evaluate students' academic capabilities in relation to their educational goals and specific disabilities.
  • Collaborate with fellow educators, support staff, and families to create Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for each student.
  • Design and implement suitable instructional strategies and activities, selecting appropriate materials based on student needs.
  • Attend and contribute to all assigned IEP meetings.
  • Deliver an effective instructional program that provides meaningful learning experiences.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom to cultivate a conducive learning environment.
  • Work alongside other professionals to enhance educational opportunities for students.
  • Assess student progress through formal and informal evaluations, maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Utilize various instructional resources and technology to enrich the learning experience.
  • Seek assistance from specialized personnel as necessary.
  • Participate in professional development activities and district meetings related to special education.
  • Maintain open communication with parents regarding student progress.
  • Supervise instructional aides and volunteers as needed.
  • Ensure that the classroom environment is safe, attractive, and conducive to learning.

Qualifications:
To excel in this role, candidates must possess the following qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) from an accredited institution.
  • A valid California Teaching Credential with specific authorization in Special Education.

Skills Required:
  • Strong analytical and interpretative skills for educational materials and policies.
  • Effective communication abilities to engage with diverse groups.
  • Competence in mathematical concepts relevant to educational settings.
  • Problem-solving skills to address various challenges in the classroom.

Physical and Work Environment:

The role requires regular interaction with students, including standing, walking, and managing classroom activities. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
