Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Safety Specialist to join our team at Thorpe Plant Services, Inc. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring a safe working environment for all employees.

Key Responsibilities
  • Arrive at the job site before the scheduled start time equipped with the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Conduct a preliminary Job Safety Analysis (JSA) walk with the site supervisor.
  • Facilitate the shift handover with the outgoing Safety Specialist.
  • Review and maintain daily logs, ensuring they are completed for each shift.
  • Address any issues or conditions that occurred during the previous shift.
  • Share log events with the shift supervisor and ensure audit reports are sent to the Regional Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Representative as required.
  • Actively participate in the JSA meetings alongside the crew BSK program.
  • Lead daily safety briefings to cover required topics from both the client and the company.
  • Provide training for employees on MSHA Part 46 & Part 48, along with other safety-related training sessions.
  • Conduct safety audits, intervene when necessary, and communicate findings to site management and the HSE Department.
  • Discuss daily hazard mitigation strategies with Site Supervision.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulations set forth by Thorpe, clients, and relevant regulatory agencies.
  • Meet with the Client Safety Representative as needed.
  • Demonstrate the ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Possess advanced knowledge of current safety regulations in construction and general industry, with the ability to analyze and interpret this information for the safety of employees and job sites.
  • Exhibit excellent communication skills, both oral and written, to effectively train and motivate employees, supervisors, and clients.
  • Ensure inspections are conducted on equipment including:
    • Forklifts
    • Man Lifts
    • Tools
    • Electrical Cords
    • Any other equipment requiring inspection
Qualifications and Educational Background
  • Minimum of 3 years of safety experience with familiarity in 1910/1926 Federal regulations.
  • OSHA 10 or 30 certification.
  • CSST (NCCER 100-hour course) is preferred.
  • A college degree in a related field is preferred.
  • CPR, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP) certification is preferred.
  • Possession of a TWIC card is a plus.
  • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • A satisfactory criminal background check is required.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Capability to walk for extended periods on various terrains and climb ladders as necessary.
  • Must pass a physical fitness test and medical evaluation.
  • The individual must be able to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
