Job Title: Grounds Laborer Heavy

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Grounds Laborer Heavy to join our team at Tlingit Haida Tribal Business Corporation. As a Grounds Laborer Heavy, you will be responsible for performing various labor tasks to maintain Fort Carson property.

Responsibilities:

  • Cut grass or weeds with a mower, riding or hand, to maintain the appearance of the property.
  • Trim hedges and edges around walks, flowerbeds, and wells, using hedge trimmers, weed eaters, clippers, and edging tools.
  • Prune shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth, using shears and other hand tools.
  • Spray lawn, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer or insecticide to promote healthy growth.
  • Hand weed-pulling, raking, mulching landscapes, remove dead, damaged, or unwanted trees.
  • Plant grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs to enhance the appearance of the property.
  • Water lawn and shrubs during dry periods, using a hose or activating the sprinkler system.
  • Pick up and cart away leaves, paper, or other litter to maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Dig with hand tools or small equipment to prepare the ground for planting or other tasks.
  • Repair and paint fences, gates, benches, tables, guardrails, and outbuildings to maintain the property's infrastructure.
  • Drive ATV's, Kubota's, and other small equipment or tractors to clear snow from walkways, parking lots, and traffic areas using a shovel and snow blower.
  • Spread salt on walkways and other areas to prevent slipping and falling.
  • Work with turf, seed, fertilizers to promote healthy growth and maintain the property's appearance.
  • Shovel gravel, rock, and dirt; moving rock and landscaping materials to maintain the property's infrastructure.
  • May work with equipment operators to coordinate hand-digging for utility lines, etc.
  • May be counted on to work asphalt, concrete, paint striping, and occasionally operate small excavation equipment and/or a street sweeper, and as a flagger when required to meet mission requirements.
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Consistently produce quality products and service to meet the customer's expectations.
  • Complete all training within the required timeline to ensure proficiency in job tasks.
  • Perform all work in a safe and secure manner to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the team and meet the customer's needs.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • Prefer minimum of one (1) year direct related experience and/or formal vocational/technical training and be physically able to handle the job responsibilities.
  • Experience in operating small trucks and grounds equipment preferred.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (Tier 1) background check.
  • Must possess the ability to work in a high-volume office area and interface in a positive manner with co-workers and the customer.
  • Must possess the ability to work in a team or alone and be able to change jobs on short notice.
  • Performs all assigned duties in accordance with established policies, procedures, and directives.
  • Displays courtesy and skill in dealing with internal and external customers, coworkers, and management.
  • Accurately maintains and updates records to enable quick and efficient retrieval of information.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English.
  • Must possess the ability to interact well with others in a team setting or alone and be able to change jobs on short notice.
  • Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high-volume environment with multiple priorities.
  • Highly motivated, flexible, organized, and must be detail-oriented.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to maintain the ability to access government worksite.
  • Must have practical knowledge of worksite safety, occupational hazards, and standard safety practices.
  • Must be able to perform duties under adverse weather conditions (extreme cold/heat, etc.).
  • Duties will require frequent periods of sitting, standing, kneeling, walking, crouching, bending, crawling, reaching, and balancing.
  • Physically fit to frequently bend, stoop, and lift in awkward positions and able to lift and carry 50-75 lbs.
  • Must be able to work alternate and extended shift schedules when necessary to meet the customer's mission requirements, including weekends and holidays.
  • Must have and maintain a valid state driver's license to operate a company vehicle.
  • Must have a safe driving record, as defined by Company policy, to operate a company vehicle.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a drug/alcohol test and a criminal record check.
