Job Summary

The Radiologic Imaging Specialist conducts mammographic procedures under the direct oversight of a radiologist. This role requires the operation of mammographic equipment with expertise, adhering to radiation safety protocols and departmental guidelines to ensure high-quality imaging.

Key Responsibilities

1. Confirm patient identity by verifying ID armbands and validating identification.

2. Review patient mammography history and compare with previous mammograms to ensure accurate examinations.

3. Execute digital imaging acquisition while recognizing factors that influence image quality, display, archiving, and retrieval.

4. Assess the technical quality of images and consult with a radiologist as necessary.

5. Assist the radiologist during invasive procedures, maintaining proper sterile techniques and preparing necessary supplies.

6. Report any equipment malfunctions to the department supervisor and perform troubleshooting and minor repairs under clinical engineering guidance.


7. Maintain accurate patient records, including completing orders, charging for exams and supplies, and verifying that the correct exam was transmitted to PACS.

Physical Requirements
This position necessitates moderate to heavy physical exertion, including lifting and moving patients, equipment, and supplies. The individual must be capable of pushing, pulling, and lifting weights up to 600 pounds with assistance. Frequent standing, sitting, walking, bending, and lifting are required, along with the ability to stretch, bend, twist, squat, and kneel in daily operations within the Mammography department. Exposure to various physical conditions, such as walking on hard surfaces and climbing stairs, is expected. The candidate must adapt to changes in temperature and humidity and adhere to radiation safety guidelines to minimize exposure to ionizing radiation.

Education, Experience, and Certifications

A graduate of an accredited two-year AMA and ARRT approved program in Radiologic Technology is required. The candidate must meet the federal mammography training requirements as outlined in the Mammography Quality Standards Act of 1992 (MQSA). ARRT certification and advanced certification in Mammography are mandatory. BLS certification is required in accordance with policy guidelines.
