POSITION SUMMARY

The Field Operations Technician is responsible for executing daily tasks related to the installation, upkeep, and repair of water system infrastructure, working under close supervision.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts installation, maintenance, and repair of water system components, which includes transporting and unloading materials, laying pipes, fixing water mains, servicing fire hydrants, installing and relocating meters, creating taps, adjusting valves, and compacting soil post-repair.
  • Identifies locations of valve boxes, water mains, and meter boxes as required.
  • May perform flushing of water lines at hydrants and blow-offs while documenting water pressure and flow rates.
  • Operates a dump truck for loading, transporting, and unloading necessary equipment and materials; may also operate a backhoe or ditch witch for excavation tasks.
  • Restores asphalt, concrete, sod, and other surfaces following project completion.
  • Ensures all work adheres to company policies, procedures, plans, specifications, schedules, and applicable regulations and quality standards.
  • Maintains, operates, and cleans assigned equipment and vehicles; inspects for safety prior to use; prepares tools and materials for daily assignments.
  • Engages in fostering positive customer relations and keeps accurate records of work performed.
  • Utilizes vehicles, telecommunication devices, basic computer applications, and various construction/maintenance tools, including jack hammers, boring machines, tampers, tap machines, pipe and concrete saws, air blowers, motors, pumps, and other hand and power tools.
  • Communicates effectively with supervisors, department heads, co-workers, customers, and the public.
  • Available for on-call duties as scheduled.
  • Assists in managing inventory of supplies, equipment, and materials.
  • Performs additional related duties as necessary.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

A High School Diploma or GED, complemented by up to one (1) year of experience in construction and/or plumbing, is essential; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities for this role. Candidates must also possess:

First Aid and CPR certification or the ability to obtain within six months of hire. A valid South Carolina Driver's License is required.
