SUMMARY
The Safety Manager plays a crucial role in the organization by formulating and executing safety protocols and practices that effectively mitigate health risks and reduce the likelihood of OSHA violations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Policy Development: Create and refine safety policies for various work activities and equipment, ensuring compliance with OSHA standards.
- Variance Management: Prepare and submit variance requests for site-specific safety concerns.
- Safety Training: Develop and implement training programs for new safety policies and procedures, ensuring all staff are well-informed.
Incident Management:
- Reporting: Oversee the documentation of injury and incident reports, ensuring thorough investigations and accurate record-keeping.
- Tracking: Maintain logs of work-related injuries and manage communication with workers' compensation providers.
- System Integration: Utilize the EMCOR ACTS system for reporting and tracking incidents, near misses, and regulatory compliance.
Safety Assessments:
- Job Safety Analysis: Develop and maintain job safety analysis forms tailored to specific tasks and projects.
- Safety Plans: Create and update project-specific safety plans in accordance with client and regulatory requirements.
- Hazard Audits: Conduct regular audits of job hazard analysis programs to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
Client Collaboration:
- Site Inspections: Conduct job walks with clients and site managers to identify and rectify safety issues.
- Meeting Participation: Attend various safety meetings and collaborate with clients and local unions to establish best practices.
Team Leadership:
- Guidance: Provide expert advice on safety management and compliance to staff and management.
- Culture Building: Foster a positive safety culture through communication and engagement initiatives.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Other responsibilities may include:
- Managing confined space safety protocols and training.
- Coordinating safety equipment procurement and maintenance.
- Assisting in the evaluation and standardization of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Supporting company-wide safety initiatives and compliance efforts.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in safety management or a related field is preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a safety management role is required.
- Certification as a Safety Professional (CSP) is preferred.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety standards in the construction industry is essential.
