The Department of Pathology at The University of Iowa is actively seeking a skilled Cytologist to conduct a range of laboratory tasks, focusing on the recognition, identification, and interpretation of intricate morphologic characteristics of both normal and atypical cells sourced from various anatomical locations. This role operates on a full-time basis, Monday through Friday, during the first shift.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conducts microscopic evaluations of slides from Cytologic specimens, including gynecologic, non-gynecologic, and fine needle aspirations (FNA), providing both preliminary and definitive Cytologic assessments.

• Executes specimen processing for gynecologic, non-gynecologic, and histologic samples as required.

• Ensures adherence to all regulatory standards set by accrediting bodies within the laboratory environment.

• Implements quality control protocols as per established guidelines.

• Offers cytotechnology training and orientation to fellow professionals and pathology residents upon request.

Essential Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s degree along with completion of an accredited cytotechnology program is mandatory.

• Registration or eligibility for registration with the American Society of Clinical Pathology is required.

• Strong communication skills, ability to collaborate effectively, and experience in a healthcare setting are preferred.
