Overview

Under the direction of management, this role is responsible for coordinating and supervising the repair, upkeep, and installation of mechanical systems and structures within wastewater treatment facilities and related infrastructures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with engineering teams to oversee installation, maintenance, and repair activities.
  • Conducts inspections of machinery, facilities, and structures, assessing their condition and recommending necessary maintenance or repairs.
  • Manages job assignments for skilled trades personnel, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
  • Reviews ongoing work daily across the facility and associated areas.
  • Assists with administrative tasks within the Plant Maintenance Section, including budget management and personnel oversight.
  • Develops strategies for maintenance and repair tasks, coordinating the installation and repair of mechanical systems and structures.
  • Assigns, supervises, and evaluates work, ensuring adherence to established standards and protocols.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Oversees procurement processes for tools, equipment, materials, and labor.
  • Supervises maintenance shops, storage areas, and vehicle facilities.
  • Keeps detailed records of all equipment repairs, modifications, and replacements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

This position may involve exposure to operating machinery, high noise levels, and unpleasant odors, as well as working in varying weather conditions.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • In-depth knowledge of construction, metalworking, mechanical, and related trades.
  • Comprehensive understanding of effective supervisory techniques and office management.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, plans, and specifications.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Capability to schedule and coordinate work across multiple sites.
  • Ability to plan and oversee the work of skilled trades personnel.

Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent, along with extensive experience in large-scale industrial maintenance, including significant supervisory and coordination roles.

Substitution Policy

Additional experience may be considered in lieu of formal education, and post-secondary education related to maintenance may substitute for non-supervisory experience.

Promotional Criteria

  • One year of service as a Master Mechanic I or two years as an Assistant Master Mechanic within the organization.
  • Civil service status in related classifications.
