Key Responsibilities and QualificationsThe NICU Nursing Unit Leader is accountable for overseeing, coordinating, and assessing the nursing care delivered within the unit. This role includes:
- Engaging in performance improvement initiatives within the hospital or department.
- Recruiting and onboarding nursing personnel.
- Creating and managing staff schedules.
- Advocating for nursing staff interests.
- Serving as a clinical resource for the nursing unit.
- Assessing staff performance and providing feedback.
- Managing disciplinary actions and fostering staff development.
- Participating in the financial oversight of the unit.
- Assisting in budget planning for the unit.
- Organizing and leading staff meetings.
- Coordinating in-service training related to unit operations.
- Ensuring compliance with age-specific care standards.
- Maintaining 24-hour accountability for unit operations and services.
- Identifying opportunities for process improvements within the department.
Licensure/Certification/Registration:
- Valid RN license in Texas or a Compact State.
- BLS certification from an approved provider.
- STABLE certification within six months of hire.
- NRP certification within six months of hire.
Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing or a related field is required.
Experience:
- 3-5 years of clinical nursing experience.
- Proven clinical expertise relevant to the assigned area.
- Prior management experience or demonstrated leadership capabilities.
