Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Transitions-Mental Health Association is seeking a skilled and compassionate Temporary Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to join our team in San Luis Obispo. As a key member of our Full Service Partnership program, you will provide high-quality, trauma-informed psychiatric care to clients enrolled in our services.
Job Summary:Under the general direction of the Clinical Director, the Temporary Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will provide psychiatric diagnostic, prescribing, and therapeutic services to FSP clients. This part-time position requires 16 hours of work per week and will be in effect from October 2024 to February 2025. The anticipated hiring range is $70.00-$80.00 per hour.
Responsibilities:- Conduct initial psychiatric and diagnostic evaluations and psychopharmacological medication management follow-up examinations as appropriate.
- Establish psychiatric diagnoses based on the DSM V.
- Treat patients using a trauma-informed care approach.
- Review and approve intakes, case reviews, and treatment plans.
- Consult with clinical, medical, and direct service staff to assist in coordinating care for clients.
- Provide cross-coverage for other providers as needed.
- May conduct individual and group psychotherapy if indicated.
- Thoroughly document all patient interactions and assist in developing and organizing a program of clinical treatment using the electronic health record (EHR).
- May serve as a consultant to clinical, medical, and other direct service staff.
- Confers with patient's relatives regarding treatment when a release is in place.
- Consults with Public Health, Hospital staff, and other specialist providers as needed for coordination of client care.
- Establishes and cultivates relationships with Primary Care Providers and Substance Use Disorder Providers working with clients.
- Participates in training on Medi-Cal and Medicare documentation standards and practices.
- Provides crisis intervention support for programs and clients.
- Participates in professional development and training, including maintaining knowledge of major clinical trends and research developments in the field of psychiatry.
To be considered for this position, you must possess a valid California license as a Nurse Practitioner, with furnishing number at the time of appointment, and board certification from the ANCC as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. At least four years of experience in mental health treatment, working with people who have a diagnosed mental illness, is highly preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills, computer skills, and knowledge of mental health recovery principles and trauma-informed services are also required.
Working Conditions:This position requires light physical activity and driving within San Luis Obispo County. The ability to work independently and flexibly, as well as maintain objectivity and confidentiality, is essential. A valid CA Driver's License, reliable transportation, proof of auto insurance, and a DMV driving record that meets TMHA's current vehicle insurance requirements are also necessary.
