Job Title: Heavy Equipment Fuel and Lube Technician

MP Materials Corp. is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Fuel and Lube Technician to join our team. As a key member of our Mobile Equipment Maintenance department, you will be responsible for lubricating, oiling, and maintaining heavy equipment in the field or shop, as well as making minor repairs.

Responsibilities:
  • Service and fuel heavy equipment such as excavators, dozers, haul trucks, wheel loaders, water trucks, pick-ups, and other support equipment.
  • Check and fill fluid levels, service lube points, and perform routine preventative maintenance.
  • Maintain service, repair, and maintenance records on a daily basis.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory of service kits, lubes, oils, and other supplies.
  • Coordinate equipment service activities with production and maintenance team members.
  • Perform Preventative Maintenance Services on Fuel and Lube truck(s) as needed.
  • Perform Preventative Maintenance Services on Mining equipment as needed and required.
  • Change forklift and truck tires as needed and required.
  • Repair damaged Auto Greasing system injection lines as needed on all heavy equipment.
  • Troubleshoot greasing system problems and repair greasing systems as needed.
  • Perform tasks from verbal/written instructions and communicate effectively with supervisor and fellow employees.
  • Keep work area clean and orderly, including the weekly cleaning of the Fuel and Lube truck(s).
  • Complete daily work assignments in a timely fashion.
  • Actively call out on the 2-way radio system point to point movement at all times on the active haul road and around Mine Equipment.
  • Be a leader of both safety and production for the team by ensuring compliance with all company safety policies, procedures, and environmental regulations.
  • Actively participate in safety huddles.
  • Always maintain a preparedness to deploy spill kits in the event of a spill with fuel or other lubricant. Actively participate in the cleanup of any spills arising from your duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to work well with others in a group or one-on-one setting.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to work early in the morning in the dark, utilizing only truck-mounted and portable lights.
  • Ability to type and operate an electronic tablet to effectively operate the Fuel Management System scanning and logging system.
  • Ability to competently perform daily pre-shift safety inspection on a Class 8 truck with air brakes.
  • Ability to safely operate the Fuel & Lube service truck at the proper speed on dirt roads with grades of up to 10% in dry, wet, or snow conditions.
  • Ability to drive a manual transmission semi-truck.
Tools and Equipment:
  • Basic hand tools per the attached tool list.
  • Tooling must be stored so it can be secured and also mobile. Typically accomplished by a rolling toolbox, tool cart, hand toolbox, or lockable tool bag.
Education and Certification:
  • High School or equivalent required.
  • 1-3 years of technical field experience servicing heavy equipment and trucks.
  • 1 year of driving experience in a Class 8 size 1,000 gallon plus fuel tanker truck is preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License and good driving record required to drive company vehicles on property.
  • Current or prior MSHA part 48 training is a plus.
Work Conditions:
  • Cold weather with occasional snowfall in the winter, hot weather in the summer up to 100F, constant and sustained wind at times.
  • This position is required to begin work at 3:00 AM and works on average 8-10 hour days as required to meet the demands of the business.
  • This position works either Tuesday through Saturday or Sunday through Thursday, pending shift need, experience, or personnel availability.

The expected pay rate is $31.90/hour to $38.03/hour. The actual pay rate offered may vary based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or location.
