This role is situated within the Space Systems Development (SSD) division, which is dedicated to pioneering next-generation technologies and systems that will enable sustainable living and working in space.

Our SSD team is composed of a diverse group of innovators and problem-solvers, all focused on enhancing the safety and reliability of spaceflight. This position plays a crucial role in shaping the future of space exploration and requires meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to safety.

The Formulation team within SSD encompasses various disciplines, including power systems, simulation, thermal management, guidance, navigation, control (GNC), autonomy, command and control, data handling, and propulsion. A key responsibility of this role will be to contribute technically as an individual contributor while working in a dynamic, agile environment characterized by rapid design iterations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement FPGA-based solutions for high-performance computing tasks, ensuring optimal performance, resource utilization, and power efficiency.
  • Develop and optimize GPU-accelerated algorithms and applications using CUDA, focusing on maximizing throughput and minimizing latency.
  • Translate complex computational challenges into efficient parallel processing workflows that leverage FPGA and GPU architectures.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate FPGA and GPU solutions into comprehensive systems and product offerings.
  • Maintain and enhance existing FPGA and CUDA codebases, ensuring high standards of code quality, stability, and scalability.
  • Conduct benchmarking and performance evaluations to inform design and optimization efforts.
  • Support the entire development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, coding, testing, debugging, deployment, and documentation.
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in FPGA and GPU technologies, tools, and best practices.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior developers, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing within the team.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, with a solid foundation in electronics and computing.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience in FPGA design and development using hardware description languages such as VHDL or Verilog, including simulation and verification.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in GPU programming with CUDA, demonstrating a deep understanding of GPU architecture and the CUDA development environment.
  • Experience with board-level development, including PCB design, prototyping, and debugging, as well as familiarity with industry-standard EDA tools.
  • Proficient in development tools for FPGAs, such as Xilinx Vivado or Intel Quartus, capable of taking designs from concept to hardware implementation.
  • Extensive knowledge of parallel programming models and optimization techniques, with the ability to write efficient and maintainable code.
  • Experience deploying FPGAs and GPUs in embedded systems, including hands-on experience with hardware bring-up and system integration.
  • Strong analytical skills to decompose complex problems into actionable steps for hardware implementation.
  • Solid understanding of digital electronics and computer architecture, enabling effective navigation at the intersection of software and hardware.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a proven ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • A proactive learner and problem solver, eager to address the unique challenges of board development and hardware deployment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field focused on FPGA/GPU development.
  • Experience in image processing, feature detection, and object tracking algorithms, with real-time video and image analysis solutions on FPGA and GPU platforms.
  • Strong background in developing computer vision and machine learning solutions, with practical experience embedding AI/ML techniques into hardware platforms.
  • Familiarity with navigation, localization, and mapping technologies, applying vision-based machine learning models in these domains.
  • Experience with neural network acceleration on FPGAs and GPUs, including knowledge of deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow and PyTorch.
  • Understanding of sensor fusion algorithms and their implementation on heterogeneous computing platforms, enhancing decision-making in autonomous systems.
  • A proven history of developing systems that intelligently process and interpret visual data for robotics or related industries.
