Position Overview
Salary Range: $67,000 - $76,000 annually
Role Purpose:
The primary responsibility of this position is to facilitate the procurement and delivery of Ingredient Commodities to all Foster Farms food processing facilities in a cost-effective manner. This will be achieved in alignment with company objectives and quality specifications set by the relevant departments. The role also includes providing administrative and technical support to Operations stakeholders and Finance, encompassing Sourcing (vendor negotiations, selection, pricing, and agreement preparation) and Supply Chain management (order placement, specification buying, supply continuity, vendor communication, Request for Proposals (RFPs), contract negotiations, stakeholder support, inventory policies, and on-time delivery).
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide daily procurement support for ingredients, managing the Req-to-Pay process, acting as a procedural resource for Purchase Requisition (PR) development, creating and issuing Purchase Orders (POs), confirming orders, resolving invoices, and maintaining departmental records. Ensure timely delivery and adapt to new scheduling requirements.
- Support the company's maintenance planning systems (MRP), assisting maintenance planners with an understanding of SAP material management, inventory settings, and material master requirements. Conduct site assessments of ordering status and promote standardization and best practices among maintenance planners.
- Assist in direct material food safety planning processes and system enhancements, managing supplier information and performance related to food safety standards, and collaborating with Quality & Feed on compliance obligations.
- Facilitate new supplier qualifications and transitions of new or modified goods/services, leading efforts to integrate new suppliers or their products.
- Identify and implement cost reduction strategies, developing and managing RFPs, RFQs, and SAP RFx(s) for various purchases, conducting bid analyses, and drafting contracts.
- Monitor and analyze trends in the agricultural commodities market, particularly in wheat, corn, and soy, to support contract agreements that enhance value in vendor negotiations.
- Ensure adherence to quality, food safety, and supplier policies for all purchases, explaining financial policies and procedures to internal customers as needed.
- Conduct research and data analysis using Excel, SAP, BW, Ariba, and other databases, managing POs and setting up new SAP numbers for materials.
- Review and validate POs written by others, with authority to release POs up to $50,000.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Procurement, Production Planning, Business, Statistics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- One to three years of experience in Purchasing/Sourcing or a business-related role in traded Commodities such as Wheat, Corn, and Sugar.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Outlook, with strong skills in Excel, including formulas and data management.
- Basic negotiation skills and knowledge of business law.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Able to learn and proficiently use SAP Procurement module, BW, Ariba, and DocuSign.
- Strong analytical skills, initiative, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to handle confidential information and thrive in a fast-paced team environment.
- Experience with SAP, BW, and Ariba.
- Demonstrated experience in contracting.
- Ability to sit for extended periods.
- Consistent and reliable attendance.
- Ability to work in fast-paced, high-pressure situations.
- Reliable transportation for off-site meetings and supplier audits.
- Willingness to travel periodically, up to 15%.
