Senior Thermal Control Systems Engineer

Our mission is to design and build artificial gravity space stations, enabling long-term stays in space without the adverse effects of zero-gravity. Our initial crewed space habitat, Haven-1, is scheduled to launch into low earth orbit in 2025, marking a significant milestone in space technology.
Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly skilled Senior Thermal Control Systems Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and developing thermal control system subsystems and components for our artificial-gravity space station. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring the safety and reliability of our spacecraft.
Responsibilities- Design and develop thermal control system subsystems and components for our artificial-gravity space station
- Iterate on manufacturing processes and development testing in a fast-paced environment
- Own the project delivery timeline from early design through production, launch, and orbit insertion
- Perform systems engineering tasks and fluid analyses
- Lead design reviews internally and externally with suppliers and customers
- Work with interdisciplinary stakeholders to ensure component integration with avionics, software, and mission operations systems
- Ensure manufacturability and reliability of all designs
- Bring technical excellence to all aspects of the role
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or other relevant engineering discipline
- 3+ years of hands-on hardware experience in fabrication, assembly, and/or testing
- 3+ years of experience working with fluid systems or components
- Demonstrated ability to own hardware or systems within an integrated engineering team
- Proactive problem-solving skills, including failure analysis, root cause investigation, and design of experiment creation
- Ability to perform trade studies using first principles and engineering fundamentals
- Experience with rotating machinery
- Proficiency in NX
- Solid understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and tolerance stack-up analysis
- Experience with structural analysis methods, including hand calculations, FEMAP, and ANSYS
- Knowledge of metallic and fluid system manufacturing techniques, processes, equipment, and other processes
- Able to work well in an integrated collaborative team environment
- Highly self-motivated with strong organizational and written/oral communication skills
