This role is designed for a certified parent peer specialist who will collaborate closely with families navigating the challenges of a child's first episode of psychosis. The specialist will leverage their personal experiences to guide and support families, offering practical coping strategies and self-help techniques. This is a part-time position, requiring 20 hours per week during the first shift, with occasional evening and weekend hours.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Personal experience with children's mental health is essential.
- Certification as a Certified Parent Peer Specialist (DMH training) is required.
- A commitment to a recovery-oriented service approach is necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a parent or caregiver who has firsthand experience caring for a child facing psychosis.
- Exhibit compassion, empathy, and understanding to effectively support families.
- Demonstrate self-motivation and maintain professional boundaries in family interactions.
- Possess strong communication skills and be an attentive listener.
- Provide ongoing emotional support and encouragement to help families recognize their strengths and needs.
- Work effectively with diverse family backgrounds.
- Conduct meetings with families through phone calls and in-person sessions at mutually agreed locations.
- Utilize negotiation skills to manage conflicts effectively.
- Participate actively in the client's treatment team, including team meetings and treatment planning.
- Deliver psychoeducation focused on illness management and family support.
- Maintain comprehensive and accurate records for all assigned cases, ensuring proper documentation for evaluation purposes.
- Part-time commitment of 20 hours during the first shift.
