This role involves supporting the validation testing of innovative and existing products within the Fire & Safety division. The engineer will collaborate with multiple engineering teams to guarantee that products fulfill both functional and reliability standards for critical applications. The ideal candidate will engage in hands-on testing, troubleshooting, procedure development, quality assurance, and project management tasks.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop test strategies to validate new or modified designs and benchmark current designs.
- Conduct testing activities, which may encompass software functionality, electrical performance, and environmental assessments.
- Coordinate compliance testing with third-party organizations.
- Create and implement fixtures and testing equipment for product reliability and production testing.
- Perform troubleshooting and problem-solving for both new and existing products, including root cause analysis.
- Collaborate with engineering, R&D, product management, quality assurance, manufacturing, external suppliers, and clients.
- Analyze requirements and test outcomes, proposing effective solutions.
- Investigate alternative methods, component substitutes, designs, processes, or materials for sustaining engineering support.
- Address internal or external technical challenges and pursue resolutions.
- Generate documentation in the form of detailed technical reports and summary presentations, including visual data representations.
- Devise innovative and practical solutions to a variety of challenges.
- Strong understanding of automotive APQP requirements (DFMEA, DVPR, 8D, 3L5Y).
- Proficient in problem-solving and structured root cause analysis.
- General knowledge of software development and validation methods.
- Familiarity with best practices in electrical circuit design.
- Experience with ARM-based microcontrollers.
- Ability to interpret schematics and utilize laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes and electrical test devices.
- Experience in circuit design involving microprocessors, switching power supplies, and analog signal conditioning.
- Strong analytical skills to identify design or quality issues.
- Attention to detail and excellent communication abilities.
- Ability to produce creative solutions in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.
- Experience with technologies such as Wi-Fi, USB, NFC, and CAN is advantageous.
- Familiarity with product certification processes (UL, FCC, e-Mark) is a plus.
- Experience with Altium for schematic capture and PCB layout is beneficial.
- Embedded coding experience for test fixtures is a plus.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field with extensive engineering experience focused on product validation.
- A minimum of 10 years in electronics design and validation.
- Experience with automotive market products that incorporate electronics and software.
- Experience in industrial products is advantageous.
- Hands-on experience resolving product issues with both new and existing designs.
- Experience in project management and multitasking.
- Experience in data analysis and statistical reliability performance.
- Familiarity with problem-solving tools such as 3 Legged 5 Why and Root Cause Countermeasure.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands for handling or feeling. The role may involve climbing, balancing, kneeling, or crouching. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to twenty-five pounds regularly and occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty pounds.
- Occasional exposure to wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and outside weather conditions. Some testing may involve stationary vehicles.
- The work environment is typically low to moderate noise levels, similar to an office setting, with occasional requirements for hearing and eye protection.
