About the Position

VHB's Water Resources group is expanding its capabilities across New England, and we're seeking a Senior Water Resources Engineer with expertise in hydraulics and hydrology to lead our dynamic team of water resource engineers and scientists.

With climate change becoming increasingly prevalent, we're witnessing a growing focus on resilient water resources solutions, and we're excited to be at the forefront of shaping this practice.

In this role, you'll collaborate with clients to develop strategic, cost-effective, and forward-thinking solutions to their riverine and coastal flooding, ecological restoration, and water resources challenges.

You'll have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects, from site to watershed scale, for various private and public sector clients.

Our team will provide you with the support and resources you need to succeed, and projects may include analysis and engineering solutions for riverine and coastal resiliency, bridge hydraulics, stream restorations, culvert design, dam removals, flood mitigation, and management.

Responsibilities
  • Lead multi-disciplinary projects with a focus on hydrologic, hydraulic, and resiliency, interacting with staff and clients.
  • Conduct hydrologic, hydraulic, and scour studies for riverine and coastal environments using current modeling software, including HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, HydroCAD, HY-8, EPA SWMM, SRH-2D/SMS, CHAMP, and others.
  • Use analysis to identify and design flood, scour, and resiliency improvements, including both hardened features and nature-based solutions and living shorelines.
  • Perform FEMA no-rise analyses and assist clients with FEMA map revisions.
  • Develop technical reports, design plans, construction documents, and specifications for water resources-related projects.
  • Lead the construction administration for water resource projects.
  • Work with VHB's integrated team to evaluate permit requirements and support the development of permit applications.
  • Attend and present at meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders.
  • Lead the development of project proposals, scopes of work, and fee estimates.
  • Mentor and expand the technical resources of our staff.
Requirements
  • BS in Civil/Environmental engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 11-15 years of professional water resources engineering and analysis experience required.
  • PE license required.
