Role Overview
  • **Position Title:** Localization Specialist II - Bilingual (Japanese/English) - 18-Month Fixed Term Contract
  • **Position Summary:** This position entails translating Japanese game content and related documents into English. A solid understanding of localization processes is crucial, along with an appreciation for the significance of localization.
  • **Classification (US Only):** Exempt

Key Responsibilities
  • Grasp the localization vision and principles of the Pokémon brand, incorporating feedback from colleagues, supervisors, and occasionally, other departments.
  • Exhibit adaptability to new processes/tools and seek guidance from senior team members.
  • Translate and review in-game text for video game products, the trading card game, and associated materials.
  • Collaborate with localization team members to ensure high linguistic quality and cultural relevance while maintaining consistency and delivering a product that aligns with the developers' intent.
  • Engage in projects as part of a closely-knit team, becoming well-versed in our products through extensive gameplay and research to ensure accurate translations that reflect context, while also keeping track of project timelines and requirements.
  • Contribute cultural insights during development meetings with fellow localization professionals.
  • Maintain consistency in terminology usage and adhere to various text type requirements, including length constraints and other technical limitations.
  • Interact daily with translators, editors, and localization project managers.
  • Regularly update in-house management on progress.
Qualifications
  • 3-4 years of experience in translating from Japanese to English.
  • Near-native proficiency in both Japanese and English, both spoken and written, is essential.
  • Ability to work flexibly in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting new software and quickly learning specialized technical applications.
  • Proven capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing various needs while ensuring quality, consistency, and attention to detail.
  • Experience in gaming (either playing or translating) is required; familiarity with Pokémon games is advantageous.
  • Experience with trading card games (either playing or translating) is a significant plus.
  • Knowledge of Trados or MemoQ is beneficial, but experience with any CAT tool is valuable.
