Job Summary:

Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital Milton is seeking a Public Safety Officer to maintain a safe and secure environment throughout the hospital property areas. The ideal candidate will possess a safety-centric mindset, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor access control to hospital facilities through proactive patrols
  • Welcoming, assisting, and directing staff and public persons into the facility while ensuring all applicable hospital rules and regulations are met
  • Monitor CCTV and alarm stations for criminal and/or safety situations and take required steps
  • Perform 1:1 Patient Watches to ensure patient and staff safety
  • Tour the facility and report any security and/or safety issues
  • Respond and assist to all emergencies, codes, and/or calls for assistance
  • De-escalate crisis situations using verbal de-escalation techniques
  • Prepare and submit written reports and daily activity events
  • Maintain open lines of communication and positive working relations with hospital staff

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; some college credits preferred
  • 6 months to 1 year of experience in a related Security and/or Customer Service environment
  • Ability to effectively speak, read, and write English
  • Working knowledge of CCTV, ID badging, and Access Control Systems
  • Ability to use a telephone, public safety radio, and communications and dispatch software
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts in a given schedule period
  • Ability to handle private information with discretion
  • AVADE de-escalation certification and AHA BLS CPR certification
  • Massachusetts Class A Unrestricted License to Carry Firearms (LTC) required within six months of hire
