Position Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) is accountable for the comprehensive nursing care provided to all patients within the healthcare facility. The RN will work towards fostering independence and making informed decisions in healthcare delivery, while maintaining cost-effectiveness without compromising care quality. The development and implementation of patient care plans will be grounded in scientific nursing principles, focusing on promoting physical, psychological, and spiritual well-being. Confidentiality of patient information is paramount, and effective communication skills are essential.
Key Responsibilities
1. Utilize specialized knowledge and clinical expertise to care for individuals with physical disabilities and chronic conditions.
2. Educate fellow nurses and team members about disease processes and associated disabilities.
3. Deliver hands-on nursing care through the application of the nursing process to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
4. Conduct nursing assessments promptly, adhering to facility policies.
5. Evaluate the physical, psychological, socio-cultural, and spiritual needs of patients and their families to create tailored care plans.
6. Formulate care plans based on identified needs and adjust them as necessary to meet measurable goals.
7. Collaborate with patients and their families to establish wellness-oriented goals that encourage social interaction.
8. Actively participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, contributing to collective decision-making.
9. Work alongside healthcare professionals to ensure the best recovery options are available to patients.
10. Collaborate with team members to provide cost-effective care that meets patient needs.
11. Document nursing interventions and changes in patient conditions in accordance with facility policies.
12. Administer medications following established protocols and within designated timeframes.
13. Maintain knowledge of ventilator settings and telemetry monitoring.
14. Exhibit strong assessment skills to evaluate situations and determine appropriate actions proactively.
15. Uphold the patient's Bill of Rights in all nursing duties.
16. Supervise and delegate nursing tasks to LPNs, CNAs, and clerical staff as appropriate.
17. Recognize and respond to emergency situations using current ACLS protocols.
18. Educate patients and families on self-care techniques to promote wellness.
19. Prepare patients and families for future decision-making responsibilities, fostering independence.
20. Reinforce educational efforts made by other team members and provide resources for evolving patient needs.
21. Conduct in-service education for patients and families regarding disease processes as needed.
22. Facilitate the education of nursing staff on patient care and disease processes through regular in-service sessions.
23. Oversee dietary management responsibilities, ensuring accuracy in patient meal orders and addressing discrepancies with the Registered Dietician.
Required Competencies
1. Proficiency in computer applications.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
1. Active RN license in the state of practice.
2. Comprehensive understanding of nursing theory and practice, with the ability to supervise and delegate tasks to LPNs, CNAs, and support staff.
3. Current ACLS certification.
4. Current CPR certification.
5. Associate Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
Preferred Education and Experience
1. CCRN/PCCN certification is preferred.
2. Experience in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is preferred.
