Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop precise cost estimates formatted according to project specifications.
  • Conduct thorough research on pricing using historical data and regional cost analyses.
  • Provide an overview of project scope to create summary estimates and control worksheets.
  • Engage directly with subcontractors and suppliers for outreach initiatives.
  • Conduct site visits, participate in pre-proposal discussions, clarify project scopes, and prepare Requests for Information (RFIs).
  • Draft comprehensive statements of qualifications and proposals that align with project owner requirements.
  • Assess projects for feasibility and identify opportunities for cost-saving through value engineering.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to formulate strategies and enhance competitive positioning.
  • Identify and engage specialty subcontractors and suppliers to meet specific project needs.
  • Prepare and manage preliminary bid schedules.
  • Generate self-performed estimates for selected trades.
  • Work closely with subcontractors and suppliers throughout the bidding process to ensure accurate scope representation.
  • Utilize project plans and specifications to delineate scopes of work, assign resources, and identify subcontracting opportunities.
  • Manage the collection of pricing from subcontractors and suppliers to finalize the company’s bid.
  • Assess and mitigate company risks during the proposal development phase.
  • Collaborate with the team to finalize estimates in HCSS software.
  • Develop preliminary project schedules based on provided plans and specifications using Primavera Contractor software.
  • Engage in proposal development and technical writing.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management; Professional Engineer (P.E.) designation preferred.
  • Over 10 years of experience in heavy civil estimating is essential.
  • Proven experience in estimating for earthwork, underground utilities, bridges, cast-in-place concrete structures, retaining walls, and similar projects.
  • Familiarity with various heavy civil work scopes is preferred.
  • Experience working with Department of Transportation (DOT) projects is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in HCSS (Heavy Bid Software), Agtek, and Primavera P6 is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with alternative delivery methods and technical writing skills is beneficial.
  • Exceptional organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Self-motivated and capable of managing a demanding workload independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical documentation.
