Job Summary

This is an intermediate-level position that requires a high degree of evaluative thinking and technical expertise in diagnosing and repairing equipment malfunctions. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of standard trade practices and general work instructions, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment, including lubricating, cleaning, servicing, inspecting, and testing.
  • Use manual and computerized diagnostic equipment to evaluate, troubleshoot, and diagnose equipment malfunctions or defects.
  • Repair or replace various parts and assemblies using mechanic power and hand tools.
  • Interpret schematics and blueprints to perform inspections, diagnosis, wiring procedures, and maintenance of mechanical, hydraulic, ignition, lighting, warning, and injection assemblies and component systems.
  • Operate computers and interpret parts, service, and automated equipment management system/manuals to perform research, order parts, prepare records, and analyze equipment malfunctions.
  • Fabricate parts, perform gas/electric welding, and make body repairs.
  • Respond to road service requests and/or assist with tow trucks/wreckers.
  • Conduct road tests/operational checks for diagnostic purposes to determine equipment deficiencies and for post-maintenance tests.
  • Clean and care for tools, equipment, and shop facilities.
  • Follow safety rules and practices, and comply with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards in the performance of duties.

Requirements

  • Six months' experience in diagnosing and repairing routine malfunctions on light-duty vehicles such as pickup trucks, sedans, or vans.
  • Six months' experience in performing routine engine tune-up on light-duty engines/system components such as replacing spark plugs, engine timing, pollution control systems, and fuel systems.
  • Knowledge of minor body repair.
  • Knowledge of welding.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked, or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
