Job Summary

Adams 12 Five Star Schools is seeking a highly skilled Mechanic Master to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining all district fleet vehicles, including light, medium, and heavy-duty diesel, gas, propane, and alternative-powered school buses, warehouse trucks, and support fleet vehicles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and repair all types of vehicles and equipment, including diesel, gasoline, propane engines, drive-train systems, suspension & steering, heating & cooling systems, airbrakes, wheelchair lifts, GPS, camera systems, etc.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and inspections of all fleet vehicles as required by CDE, DOT, FMVSS, and FMCSR specified by vehicle manufacturer and fleet service department standards.
  • Instruct, train, and assist drivers on the proper functions of school buses and fleet vehicles.
  • Communicate with drivers over 2-way radio with instruction and guidance on mechanical issues.
  • Act as a technical resource for new fleet mechanics and drivers, including training, demonstrating, and answering questions.
  • Advanced level diagnoses of electrical and mechanical faults, including troubleshooting engines, transmissions, drivetrain, ABS/traction control/collision mitigation systems, electrical systems, wiring circuit problems, using diagnostic equipment.
  • Complete required forms, paperwork, and data entry for fleet maintenance records, including repair orders, inspection forms, etc.
  • Enter work orders and report time worked into the fleet management software system.
  • Respond to roadside service calls, diagnosing, repairing, and reporting back to supervisor of vehicle breakdown situations.
  • Fabricate, modify, and repair vehicle body and frame constructions using welding and metal working equipment.
  • Report on vehicle repair and maintenance progress to supervisor and notify transportation staff of red-tagged buses and fleet vehicles.
  • Train, mentor, and instruct apprentice fleet mechanics in proper maintenance and repair procedures.
  • Continue ongoing professional development and training to remain current with the rapidly changing automotive and medium-duty industry and new technology.
  • Report to work during snow duty as essential personnel to provide support to snow removal staff, plow snow in the transportation lot, and prepare vehicles for operations.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • More than five (5) years of experience in vehicle maintenance repairs, including medium/heavy-duty diesel engines.
  • Diesel or Automotive vocational or college certification preferred.
