Job Summary

The Sales Associate/Material Handler will be responsible for ensuring all customers and donors needs are met by providing a genuine greeting and prompt, courteous assistance. This includes stocking priced items, maintaining the store and donation area, and performing cleaning duties as assigned by management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service by greeting customers and donors, and assisting with their needs.
  • Stock and merchandise products on the sales floor, and maintain a clean and organized store and donation area.
  • Perform cleaning duties as assigned by management, including sweeping, mopping, and dusting.
  • Operate a cash register and process transactions accurately and efficiently.
  • Assist with receiving, unloading, and stocking incoming inventory items.
  • Inspect products for defects and damages, and report any issues to management.
  • Assist donors with the removal of donated items from their vehicles, and provide receipts.
  • Separate and sort donated materials into the proper containers, and stack materials as instructed by management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Ability to accurately handle cash transactions and operate a cash register.
  • Pass a background check, which will include a criminal history and sex offender registry check.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with management, fellow store employees, customers, and donors.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, clothing carts, merchandise carts, rolling clothing racks, fixtures, furniture dollies, platform trucks and carts, hand trucks and miscellaneous carts.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to perform various repetitive motion tasks.

Schedule

The Salvation Army operates 7 days a week, from 9am to 8pm. Work schedules are determined by management and employees must be flexible to ensure adequate store coverage. Part-time associates may be scheduled to work any part-time shift, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
