REPORTS TO: Wellness Director
POSITION SUMMARY:
- The core responsibilities of the Medication Administration Specialist encompass a range of duties that may be adjusted periodically at the discretion of Viva Senior Living.
- Adhere to business conduct standards in compliance with federal, state, and local health regulations and guidelines.
- A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required.
- Demonstrate the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues in a supportive work environment while maintaining compassion and dignity towards residents, in accordance with the Resident Bill of Rights.
- In emergency situations, the employee may be required to return to work.
Attendance policies must be followed, as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English is essential.
- Uphold the highest standards in addressing the needs of residents and their families.
- Comply with all facility policies and procedures.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure the precise and timely distribution and documentation of medications for residents, following each resident's physician's orders and applicable regulations.
- Support residents in achieving their overall wellbeing by adhering to the established Plan of Care, assisting with daily living activities, social engagements, dietary needs, and the philosophies of Viva Senior Living.
- Supervise and provide care for residents daily, tailored to their individual needs.
- Assist with daily living activities, including bathing, grooming, and dressing as necessary.
- Monitor and document residents' self-administration of prescribed medications.
- Report any refusals or adverse reactions to the supervising staff.
- Guide residents and their families to the appropriate staff for additional needs or information.
- Order meal trays for residents as required.
- Document changes in residents' conditions and communicate relevant information to the next shift.
- Implement personalized care plans for each resident.
- Communicate patiently and clearly with staff, residents, and visitors.
- Assist in the dining area as needed.
- Administer medications as directed by supervisory staff.
- Respond promptly to emergency calls and complete necessary documentation afterward.
- Maintain cleanliness and order in residents' living areas.
- Report any maintenance issues observed in residents' rooms.
- Participate in educational programs as mandated by the community and state.
- Perform additional duties as required.
HEALTH REQUIREMENTS:
- Annual verification of a negative TB skin test is mandatory.
- Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination is required, with exceptions for medical and religious accommodations.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to move throughout the workday.
- Ability to cope with the mental and emotional demands of the position is essential.
- Must possess adequate vision and hearing, or use prosthetics to meet these requirements.
- Meet general health requirements as outlined by facility policies.
- Ability to relate to and work with elderly, disabled, and emotionally distressed residents.
- Must be capable of lifting a minimum of 25 pounds and moving it a distance of at least 50 feet.
- May need to assist in evacuating residents during emergencies.
