Job Summary:

The Patient Access Representative position at University Hospital is responsible for interviewing patients in a professional and courteous manner. This role involves efficient and timely patient arrivals and registration functions, including Inpatient, Outpatient, Emergency Department, and Pre-Registration. The representative will electronically enter accurate patient demographic information into the University Hospital computer system and obtain signatures on all required documentation. Additionally, they will confirm required insurance precertification, authorization, and documentation for billing and medical record processing. The representative must ensure compliance with insurance, State, and regulatory guidelines and notify patients of University Hospital policies regarding patient care. Excellent customer service skills are essential for this role, as the representative will interact with patients and provide a positive experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Interview patients in a professional and courteous manner
  • Efficiently and timely complete patient arrivals and registration functions
  • Electronically enter accurate patient demographic information into the University Hospital computer system
  • Obtain signatures on all required documentation
  • Confirm required insurance precertification, authorization, and documentation for billing and medical record processing
  • Ensure compliance with insurance, State, and regulatory guidelines
  • Notify patients of University Hospital policies regarding patient care

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Three (3) years of clerical experience in a physicians office, hospital, or insurance company required
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
  • An understanding of Managed Care, Medicaid, and Charity Care guidelines and regulations preferred
  • Must be detail oriented and possess excellent customer service skills, as well as oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of computers and data entry experience required
