Job Summary

The City of Fitchburg, WI is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to fill the position of Fire Science Resident Intern - 2nd Year. This is an exciting opportunity for a student enrolled in a Fire Science Program to gain hands-on experience and develop their skills in emergency response and fire prevention.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to emergency calls and participate in fire suppression activities.
  • Assist in the inspection and maintenance of fire apparatus, stations, and equipment.
  • Participate in training activities, including drills and external fire service-related courses.
  • Perform search and rescue tasks, as required.
  • Communicate effectively with incident commanders and other responders via radio.
Requirements
  • Enrolled in a Fire Science Program with a minimum of 30 credits completed.
  • State of Wisconsin Firefighter 1 certification required.
  • Ability to think clearly and react effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral or written instructions.
  • Ability to use reason and good judgment in dealing with all kinds of people.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent exposure to hazardous conditions. The individual must be able to climb ladders and work at considerable heights, as well as work in restrictive clothing and confined spaces.

Benefits

This internship offers a stipend of $150.00 per bi-weekly pay period, a tuition reimbursement program, and room and board in our state-of-the-art facilities. Additional hours of work are available depending on response and assigned responsibilities.
