Medical Assistant Lewistown Primary Care Clinic PRN

Job Description:
A Medical Assistant has accountability for providing care to patients in an ambulatory clinic setting. This involves caring for patients with acute and chronic needs in the Lewistown Clinic. The Medical Assistant will perform general administrative and patient care tasks in accordance with the Intermountain MGPSMA Scope of Practice, and other established policies and procedures.
Clinic Hours:
Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. No call and no weekends.
The Medical Assistant will be responsible for greeting and preparing patients for the healthcare provider while maintaining a positive and caring attitude. They will be attentive to patients' needs, coordinate care, administer care, and document appropriately. The Medical Assistant will also provide for patient safety and protection of patient privacy rights by observing HIPAA regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Obtain and record patient information; vital signs, height, weight, allergies, current medications, medical history, and chief complaint, etc.
- Demonstrate knowledge of examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures.
- May be required to draw and collect blood samples and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Per Provider request, may perform routine tests including but not limited to EKGs, hearing and vision screens.
- Schedules patients for diagnostic testing and follow up as appropriate to ensure completion of testing.
- Communicates test results to patients and establish plan of care by phone or mail as directed by the Provider.
- Documents patient plan(s) of care, tests and examination results in the medical record as directed by the provider.
- Prepares, clean and sterilize instruments and maintain equipment; stock patient exam rooms while maintaining cleanliness and organization, and dispose of contaminated items according to protocol.
- Administers ordered medications and/or vaccines via oral, injection, topical, rectal, ophthalmic, and/or inhalant administration.
- Escalates non-routine issues, questions and/or concerns to the practice manager and/or healthcare provider(s).
- Ensures safety checklists/quality controls are completed as required.
- Demonstrates sound judgment and composure with the ability to take appropriate action in questionable or emergency situations.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Current BLS Certification is required upon hire or within 60 days of hire upon approval.
- Three months healthcare experience and phlebotomy experience.
- Successful completion of initial MA onboarding within 90 days, annual skills fair, and in-services for site specific tasks is required.
- Ability to successfully function in a fast paced, service oriented environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail and accuracy is required.
Preferred:
- Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program is preferred.
- Successful completion of an Accredited National Certification Exam for Certified Medical Assistants (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) is preferred.
Work Environment:
The Medical Assistant will work in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment with frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors. The employee will be required to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies. Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy is also required. The employee will be expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients, and will also be required to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment.
