Principal Civil Engineer

We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Civil Engineer to join our team in Silver Spring, MD. As a key member of our Civil Engineering Group, you will be responsible for leading and managing projects from concept to construction, including stakeholder outreach, feasibility studies, and construction document preparation.
With a strong background in civil engineering and a passion for sustainable multimodal transportation, you will be working on complex roadways, streetscapes, and trail projects that enhance the natural environment. You will have the opportunity to work with a diverse group of clients and project types, and will be managing projects that require collaboration between planners, landscape architects, urban designers, and engineers.
Responsibilities- Lead and manage projects from concept to construction, including stakeholder outreach, feasibility studies, and construction document preparation.
- Develop and implement project plans, timelines, and budgets.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including planners, landscape architects, urban designers, and engineers.
- Manage and mentor junior staff, providing guidance and support to ensure project success.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and community groups.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies.
- Professional Engineering license in MD (other Mid-Atlantic states a plus).
- Bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering.
- At least 15 years of engineering experience developing construction documents and/or public agency construction administration.
- At least 5 years serving in a project and/or design management role.
- Broad knowledge base in civil engineering, with specific experience in roadway design, drainage design, geometric design, 3D modeling, and design of accessible public spaces.
- Proven track record of past performance delivering multiple large/complex projects on time and on budget.
- Experience developing construction documents, preparing transportation and local agency permit documents, and leading multidisciplinary teams.
- Interest in multimodal and active transportation design, experience managing staff, and proficiency in Computer Automated Design (AutoCAD or MicroStation) and design software (Civil 3D, GEOPAK or InRoads).
