Job Description

Job Summary:

The Ship Checker will conduct thorough examinations of Navy vessels to validate work notifications, determine repair scopes, and provide planners with essential information for work item development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct ship checks onboard Navy vessels using applicable drawings and references to validate work notifications and determine repair scopes.
  • Identify interferences and special circumstances that impact the planning process and work item development.
  • Document ship checks with detailed information and photographs on approved forms in PDF format for use in work item development and uploading into the Navy Maintenance Database.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Physical ability to climb ladders, transit decks, and perform work on Navy vessels.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and transport heavy equipment and boxes (minimum 30 lbs).
  • Self-starter with excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge of Navy ship compartmentation and layout.
  • Ability to read, understand, and validate work notifications and determine repair scopes.
  • Comprehensive writing and communication skills for verbal and written findings and recommendations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe programs, including word processing.
  • Knowledge of Navy Structural, Mechanical, Piping, and Electrical systems.
  • 10% overseas travel expected; must be able to obtain a Passport and required clearances.
  • Must have a current and valid driver's license and be a U.S. citizen.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate's degree or higher preferred.
  • At least two years of education in a technical/vocational school, apprentice training, U.S. Navy, or equivalent experience.

Security Clearance:

  • This position requires U.S. citizenship and a Secret Clearance issued by the US Government.
  • A current, active Secret security clearance is preferred.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a valid US Passport.
