Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Corporation Counsel II to join our Finance and Economic Development Division. As a key member of our team, you will provide legal assistance to City Departments, including the Department of Finance, Department of Planning and Development, and Department of Housing. Your expertise will be instrumental in serving as issuer's counsel for the issuance of general obligation bonds, revenue bonds, and tax increment bonds.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal assistance to City Departments on various matters, including finance, economic development, and housing.
  • Serve as issuer's counsel for the issuance of general obligation bonds, revenue bonds, and tax increment bonds.
  • Revitalize blighted areas through projects that create jobs with tax increment financing (TIF).
  • Negotiate and close multi-family housing loans and tax credits.
  • Review proposed federal and state grants to the City.
  • Negotiate financial agreements with other local governments.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an American Bar Association accredited law school with a Juris Doctor degree.
  • Admission to the Illinois Bar or eligibility for admission on motion to the Illinois Bar pursuant to Illinois Supreme Court Rule 705.
  • Two (2) years of legal practice experience.
  • Superior writing, research, and editing skills.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, monitor, and control workflow deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others and groups (both orally and in writing).
  • Exceptional client counseling skills.
  • Excellent analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with and motivate others.
  • Demonstrated ability to exhibit leadership and initiative on assigned tasks.
