POSITION OVERVIEW:

The role of the Server is to provide exceptional dining experiences in our Independent Living and Assisted Living facilities. This position involves taking meal orders and serving food to residents during regular dining hours and special events.

Servers are essential to the overall functionality of the food service department, assisting with setup and cleanup tasks, as well as various other responsibilities such as restocking condiment supplies.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare the dining area and set tables prior to each meal, ensuring all linens, centerpieces, dishware, and utensils are in place.
  • Assist residents in selecting menu items, taking orders in a restaurant-style format, and managing guest meal tickets.
  • Prepare and plate food items in the kitchen, adding garnishes and condiments as necessary.
  • Serve each course following proper etiquette and ensure that any special requests are accommodated.
  • Input orders into the Point of Sale (POS) system.
  • Regularly check on diners to address their needs during meals; clear used dishes and refill beverages as required.
  • Promptly clear vacated tables and transport soiled linens and dishware to the appropriate area.
  • Adhere to food handling and sanitation protocols throughout food preparation and service.
  • Complete assigned cleaning tasks, including organizing clean dishes, restocking supplies, folding napkins, and maintaining cleanliness in dining areas.
  • Deliver meals to residents' apartments upon request.
  • Assist during special events by circulating with trays of beverages or appetizers.
  • Follow all safety and loss prevention procedures, adhering to infection control standards.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or supply shortages to the department manager.
  • Participate in mandatory meetings and training sessions.
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and hygiene.
  • Familiarize yourself with emergency response procedures and fire alarm protocols.
  • Ensure the confidentiality of resident information and contribute to a safe environment for all community members.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A genuine passion for working with older adults, demonstrating patience and the ability to accommodate special needs.
  • Knowledge of health department regulations regarding sanitation and food safety.
  • Reliable and punctual, capable of fulfilling job responsibilities consistently.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English; bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
  • Proficient in the safe use of kitchen tools and equipment.
  • Experience with POS systems is advantageous.
  • Previous experience serving large groups is preferred.

EDUCATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Individuals under 18 must meet the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The following physical requirements are necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of this role:
  • Standing and/or walking for the majority of the workday.
  • Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Pushing and pulling carts weighing up to 100 pounds.
  • Engaging in sweeping and mopping activities.
  • Frequent kneeling, bending, and reaching.
  • Working in environments with varying temperatures, including hot and cold.
  • Regular exposure to sharp tools, hot surfaces, and food preparation equipment.
  • Potential exposure to infectious materials and hazardous substances during the workday.
